Heavy Equipment Operator and Mobile Crane Operator Programs

Heavy Equipment Operator and Mobile Crane Operator Programs

Do you want to train to become a heavy equipment operator or mobile crane operator? The Operating Engineers College (OEC) offers a 22 Week Heavy Equipment Operator and 25-Week Mobile Crane Operator programs.

Heavy equipment operators operate heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, airports, gas and oil pipelines, tunnels, buildings and other structures, in surface mining and quarrying activities and in material handling work while mobile crane operators operate mobile cranes to lift, move, position and place materials and equipment. They perform pre-operational inspections,  calculate crane capacities, determine load weight, and set up, position and stabilize the crane before the lift. Mobile crane operators have the additional responsibilities of disassembling, traveling and transporting mobile cranes.

These pre-employment apprenticeship programs are accredited by the Provincial Apprenticeship and Certification Board (PACB) and are offered to individuals seeking a career as a heavy equipment operator or mobile crane operator. Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will be qualified for an entry level heavy equipment operator or mobile crane operator position.

They will have the skills and knowledge to safely operate as an apprentice, and have the opportunity to progress to Journeyperson Certification. Graduates will obtain a Class 3 Driver’s license with the Air Brakes endorsement (09), and a Class 8 Traction Engine License.
